Netflix says Congress can help bring Facebook app to U.S.

The movie provider launched a Facebook application last year that makes recommendations for users based on the Netflix viewing habits of their friends also using the social networking site. Netflix wins over Wall Street with subscriber growth

The Los Gatos, California-based company's shares soared 23.5 percent to $117.40 in afternoon trading. Shares had dropped to a year's low of $62.37 on November 30. Netflix says Amazon to launch standalone video streaming service

Netflix also said it expects Amazon's standalone service to be priced below its own service. A spokesman at Netflix declined to comment, as did a spokeswoman at Amazon. Netflix and Warner Bros. have reached an agreement over longer rental windows, but Redbox and Blockbuster do not appear ready to back down from their opposition to a 56-day delay on offering new releases from the studio.
